Since 1939, the Gyeongchun Line has served as an important mode of transportation connecting Seoul and Chuncheon. People enjoyed taking excursions out to the outskirts of Seoul via the Gyeongchun Line for a short and quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Many got together with their friends and loved ones, and embarked on trips departing from Cheongnyangni Station to popular getaway destinations, such as Daeseong-ri, Cheongpyeong and Gangchon Stations. Seated vis-a-vis, passengers cherished every moment of chit-chat while passing by suburban scenery over the course of the meandering route and rail squeal of their train trips with friends and loved ones.
Old railroad tracks were preserved and transformed into a forest path following the decommissioning of Gyeongchun Line’s Mugunghwa-ho train on Dec. 20, 2010. Visitors can walk along old railroad tracks in Gyeongchun Line Forest located near the Seoul Urban Life Museum and travel back in time to relive memories of their youth.
Come visit the Seoul Urban Life Museum to appreciate this exhibition and celebrate the former glory of Gyeongchun Line that provided youthful joy to Seoul citizens from the 1970s to the 1990s.
