2023 Special Exhibition of the Seoul City Wall Museum
Sukjeongmun: Reopening the Closed Gate
Sukjeongmun was built in the early Joseon dynasty as the northern gate of the Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City Wall), but did not actually serve its function as it was always closed. However, Sukjeongmun remained its status as a site of reference for feng shui-related geomancy during times of extreme weather such as extended rainy season and severe drought.
This exhibition is designed to explore the role and status of Sukjeongmun, shedding light on why this city wall gate remained closed during the Joseon dynasty, and offering visitors an opportunity to look back on the history of Sukjeongmun, which is now accessible to the public via the Baegak section (Bugaksan Mountain) of the Hanyangdoseong.
