* About the exhibition
Shanghai is one of the municipalities of China. It is located on the western coast of the Pacific Ocean, the eastern edge of Asia, the eastern tip of the Yangtze Delta, and the midpoint of the north-south coastline. Between the Yuan dynasty (1206–1367) and Qing dynasty (1616–1911), the lower Yangtze River area where Shanghai was located was a very prosperous region in China. Shanghai today is now one of the largest cities and the largest ports, serving as the base for foreign exchanges, the economic center in many fields, and the cultural center of China. Among the records found to date, silverware proves Shanghai's historical development. This exhibition showcases the rich and excellent silverware and related literature housed in the Shanghai History Museum. From the perspective of silverware, the exhibition vividly tells the story of Shanghai held by the relic, reproduces the social life of ancient Shanghai people who pursued an elegant and poetic life, and visually shows the development and changes of modern Shanghai. The most interesting part is that it reveals in depth the historical and cultural foundation where the city’s spirituality was formed.
