The Seoul Museum of History, together with the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, will hold the Special Exhibition Commemorating the Centennial of Korean National Sports Festival from August 28 through September 29 at the museum’s first-floor lobby and the Dongdaemun Stadium Memorial Museum. The exhibition has been planned to grow public interest and participation in the 100th Korean National Sports Festival and the 39th National Para Games to be held in Seoul in October. The special exhibition will provide a quick glance at the continuous evolution and development of the National Sports Festival uninterrupted by the socio-political changes of Korea from the period of Japanese colonial rule through recent times by featuring such sports heroes as marathoner Sohn Kee-chung, the first Korean to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games; swimmer Jo O-ryeon, widely known for his nickname “Seal of Asia”; weightlifter Jang Mi-ran who won a gold medal in the Olympics; and swimmer Park Tae-hwan, also an Olympic gold medalist.
