About
Jangchungdan Park is an urban green space for Seoul residents to visit and rest. It has a long history dating back to the Korean Empire when Koreans set up a place to hold ancestral rites for the heroic spirits of soldiers. However, it was turned into a park during the Japanese occupation of Korea, and Bakmunsa Temple was built in honor of Ito Hirobumi. In 1963, the Seoul Metropolitan Government built the large dome-shaped Jangchung Gymnasium (now Jangchung Arena) at the entrance of the park. Jangchung Arena served as a major venue for not only important moments in indoor sports history, but also major events in modern history such as presidential elections.
Visitors are invited to explore the storied timeline and historic significance of this area that serves as a place of remembrance and rejoice through this exhibition.
