Seodaemun Prison History http://parks.seoul.go.kr/independence/

Introduction

The Seodaemun Prison History Museum is a place of living history in which one can see the innumerable Korean patriots who were forced to undergo the hardships of prison and later lose even their very lives for their nation, and see what part it played in the independence of Korea.

In order to not repeat the unfortunate past, one has to look back with certainty on the past an gain lessons from it.

. In Seodaemun-gu the prison has been recreated exactly the way it was with prison structures, the execution yard and watchtower, as well as the infamous public security building, and was opened as the Seodaemun Prison History Museum.

Especially here in the Seodaemun Independence park is a veritable holy land of Korean history such as the Seodaemun Prison History Museum, national treasure #32, Independence Gate, National Treasure #33 Yeongeunmun Pillars, Independence Hall, Memorial Tower of the Martyrs, 3.1 Declaration Memorial Tower, among others.

The Seodaemun Prison History Museum intends to be a place of living history where all citizens, Koreans abroad and youth can come to have a correct view of history and the unbending spirit of independence.
