 Introduction |
 |
The Sung Kok Art and Culture Foundation (chief director
Kim Seogwon) is a purely public foundation that was inaugurated to
commemorate the dedication of Sung Kok Kim toward the Korean community.
As its first project, the Sung Kok Art and Culture Foundation established
the Sung Kok Art Museum (director Park Munsun) in November 8th, 1995.
Its primary purpose is contributing to the globalization of Korean
art and sharing the profit earned by Ssangyong Enterprise to the country.
Located at the former residence of founder Sung Kon Kim, the founder
of Ssangyoung, the Sung Kok Art Museum endeavors to consolidate the
identity of Korea and to publicize Korean art worldwide through concentration
on the holding of planned exhibitions. Exhibitions at Sung Kok focus
on reinterpreting the traditional Korean spirit, the delicate sentiment
expressed in Korean art, and the aesthetic values of Korean art capable
of independent growth and with a modern perspective. For this, the
Sung Kok Art Museum holds over fifteen planned exhibitions per year
with themes centered on Korean modern art, and for individual and
cultural art exhibitions to support young artists. It validates the
integrity of Korean culture and serves as a place of international
communication in the visual world. Our goal in the future is to advance
Korean art through further internationalization, the seeking out new
artists, and support of established ones that form the backbone of
the Korean art world |
