The Houses of Gyeonpyeon-bang, Home for the Hanyang People
About the exhibiton
The Gongpyeong Historic Sites Museum is located in what which used to be Gyeonpyeongbang of Hanyang in the Joseon dynasty, and what is the current-day Cheongjin-dong, Gongpyeong-dong and Insa-dong. It flourished as the most economically and culturally developed place in Hanyang as many government offices like Uigeumbu and stores were located, attracting many people.
In particular, many people conducted commercial businesses in Gyeonpyeongbang, and they lived in stores or had houses nearby.
This exhibition looks at how residential areas for people were developed after Hanyang was designated as Joseon’s capital and explores to understand what life was like for people who lived in Gyeonpyeongbang.
Houses of Gyeonpyeongbang have made into models and displayed for this exhibition based on discovered and recorded documents.
This special exhibition displays and explains old documents produced during the transactions of houses which used to exist for 100 years in Gyeonpyeongbang to allow you to learn how houses were traded in Hanyang.
A special lecture is also prepared in connection with this special exhibition.
